Massage Therapy Certificate Program

Massage Therapy, according to the American Massage Therapy Association, is one of the most ancient healing arts. It is a branch of natural health care that spans a wide variety of therapeutic approaches that work to improve a person’s health and well-being through the hands-on manipulation of muscles and other soft tissues of the body.

Massage Therapy is defined as the use of manual techniques to promote stress relief and relaxation, mobilize soft tissues, relieve pain and swelling, prevent deformity or injury and promote functional independence.

The therapeutic effects and benefits of massage include the stretching and loosening of soft tissues, increasing blood and lymph flow and reducing pain, tension and anxiety. The hands-on therapy speeds the removal of metabolic waste products resulting from exercise or inactivity, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach tissues. Massage therapy can stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. All of these effects can translate into enhancing physical and psychological health.

Massage Therapy is a great opportunity for someone looking to enter the medical field. Massage therapists can be employed in a variety of setting, including:

  • Fitness/wellness centers
  • Medical offices
  • Dental offices
  • Pain management clinics
  • Private practice
  • Chiropractic offices
  • Physical therapy clinics
  • Sports/rehab clinics

As more clinicians are utilizing massage therapy as a form of healing, the demand for massage therapists will rise.
