Hordych Announces 11 Signees
Maria Procopio is an extremely talented player from Ontario, Canada. Prior to moving to Canada, Maria played soccer in Italy for 6 months on a Regional team and was selected to play with the U-19 Italian national team. In Canada she has competed in and won numerous high school and club championships. Maria is currently competing in the OFSAA tournament in Ontario, Canada. “Maria is the type of player that is expected to help improve our program tremendously. She will be one of the best players to ever wear a saint’s jersey” says Coach Hordych. “Maria will be a center piece for our team this season, it will be extremely fun to watch her and Kaylyn Whiteley play together. They should combine for a deadly attack’, says Hordych. “There is no doubt in my mind that after Maria graduates from MNE, she will be playing at the NCAA Division II or I level.” Dunnewold and Sterling are two standout soccer players from Corry High School in Corry, PA. “These two players are a great addition to our program", says Hordych. "Both will be relied upon to come in to camp and have an immediate impact on our team, they both have the ability to do so”. Suzanne Apel of Monroeville, PA was a soccer standout for the Gateway Gators. She was a four year starter and a two-time all-section player. “Suzanne is one of the most skilled players in our program’s history,” stated Gateway Head Coach, Chris Spudich. “Suzanne is a fantastic addition to our program", says Hordych. "She is a very talented player that will be relied upon to lead a strong defense in 08’. She is a player who has the ability to have an immediate impact on our team and the conference. The Saints Soccer staff is very excited of the addition of Sue to our squad.” Jen Talarico is a four year goalkeeper from Iroquois High School in Iroquois, PA. She helped Iroquois’s girls soccer program establish themselves as one of the top girls soccer programs in the district. “Jen will come in and add some much needed leadership and skill in the net. She is a very aggressive, energetic and talented player and should do well for MNE this fall”. Amanda McFadden is a two year starter for Fort Leboeuf High School in Waterford, PA and is expected to come in and compete for a starting center back spot. She is a tall, athletic defender that should help improve the Saints defense dramatically. Kourtney Jackson is a four year soccer play from Corry High School in Corry, Pa. She joins a long list of Corry Beavers who will be on the squad this fall. She will be expected to come in and add depth to the striker position. “Kourtney is another great addition to our squad, she will be counted on to have an immediate impact on our team”. Steph Gambill will compete for the starting spot in the back of the net. “She is a very aggressive and fearless goalkeeper. Steph will add some much needed leadership and depth for us in the back of the net”. Steph was the starting keeper for East for the past three seasons. Lindsay Hampy joins the saints after playing the last four years with the state power house McDowell Trojans. “Lindsay will be a great utility player for us. She can play anywhere on the field and be successful anywhere we decide to use her”. Amy Tatalone and Liz Dobrich are two standout players from Strong Vincent High School. Both were two year starters and should make solid contributions to the team. Both will be relied upon for the defensive skills. With these seven new additions joining the returners and the rest of the incoming freshman class, this fall should look to be a great season for the MNE Lady Saints.
