Men's Basketball Jim Evans - Head Coach
Evans, a native of Binghamton, N.Y., comes to Mercyhurst after spending the last two seasons as the Head basketball coach at Broome Community College. While at Broome, Evans guided the Hornets to a record of 39-20, a Mid-State Regular Season Championship, a Mid-State Tournament Championship and was named Mid-State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In his first season at the helm, Evans took the Hornets to a 20-10 record a runner-up finish in the conference regular season and tournament, and a birth in the Region III tournament. This past season, Evans took the Hornets to a 19-10 record and BCC won the conference regular season and tournament championship. BCC was awarded the number three seed in the Region III Tournament. As a collegiate player, Evans played and excelled at both Broome and Nazareth College in Rochester. While playing at Nazareth, Evans was a two-time NCAA All American selection. He led the Empire 8 conference in scoring and assists both years at Nazareth. Before Nazareth, Evans played at Broome Community College, where was named to the NJCAA All-American team both seasons. After his collegiate career, Evans spent 2 seasons touring the globe with the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters as a member of their famed opposition the Washington Generals. He played in every NBA arena and in 38 total countries touching 6 continents. Following his time with the Trotters played professionally in the top league in Denmark. His first year, he was third in the nation in scoring with 23.8 points per game. Both seasons Evans was named to the All Star game, and won the MVP his first year. Evans holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology along with an Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. He currently resides in Erie. Phone: (814) 725-6115 |
