Academic Facilities

Michele and Tom Ridge
Health and Safety Building

The Ridge Building, a $5.5 million structure built in 2005, houses the Nursing Arts Lab, the Ridge Library, several classrooms, a computer lab and Great Room. It is the headquarters for Mercyhurst’s Center for Public Safety and the nursing program.

Karsh Hall
Built in 1920, Karsh Hall houses faculty offices on the first and second floors, along with the Academic Support Services Center. The ground floor has three modern culinary arts kitchens and a small visitor’s dining room. It is named after Dr. Carl Karsh, North East physician, who was the physician for the seminary for more than 50 years.

Miller Hall
The main building of the Mercyhurst-North East complex, Miller Hall was built in 1868. The building is a noble brick structure, 160 feet long and 60 feet wide built in Victorian Gothic style. Little has changed in its external appearance since it was built almost 130 years ago. Its mansard roof, intricate sculpturing and twin towers give the building a palatial feeling. The front entrance to Miller Hall opens to a magnificent rotunda. The back of the building features an outdoor mural depicting the history of the facility.

Today Miller Hall is primarily used as a classroom building, but it also houses a resource center, computer labs, the physical therapist assistant and allied health labs, and student union. The ground level was turned into additional resident housing in the fall of 1997. The residence facilities in Miller are connected to the Erie campus server for Internet access. Miller Hall is named for North East businessman and Mercyhurst College trustee, Robert Miller, who has been the primary benefactor of Mercyhurst-North East since the college purchased the educational landmark in 1991 from the Redemptorist Fathers.

Computer Labs
The Mercyhurst North East campus has access to 120 computers located in four computer labs, the Ridge Library, and the Tutoring Center. All labs/work areas utilize Windows PCs with Windows XP.

Mercyhurst North East computer resources are systematically updated and expanded to parallel growth in information and technology as it develops.  The labs in Miller 115 and Miller 203 are available to all students with day and evening hours when not scheduled for classes.  In addition there are computers in the Ridge Library, the Tutoring Center (Karsh 207), and in the Ridge Health & Safety Building (Ridge 116).  Wireless access is also available in the Ridge Library.

Alex Theatre
Not too big and not too small, this cozy 98-seat theater is the perfect venue for student theater classes and productions and performances by the North East Community Players. Built in 1978, this charming little theater is named for Alex Clemente, founding director of the Mercyhurst-North East theater program. Alex Theatre was renovated in 1998 to include new seating, a stage extension, updated house lights, a sound system and lighting booth.
