The MNE Athletics Department is proud to represent North East and welcomes members of the community to join us at home games to root for the Saints. Admission is free. Here’s a look at the season. For more information, visit Saints Athletics.
The Men’s Saints look to have a good season for Fall 2018 with eight returning sophomores leading an incoming freshman class of 14 players. The team represents eight different countries this year and Coach Dan Poe hopes this diversity will help to create an exciting style of play. The roster also boasts two North East natives, #4 sophomore Matt Jackson and #14 freshman Alex Shaffer. According to Poe: “This should be a fun year for the program, one that we hope has successes both on and off the field. Our goal, as always, is to prepare the players for playing and seeking further education beyond their time here at Mercyhurst North East.”
The Lady Saints come into the Fall 2018 season with four returning sophomores and 12 incoming freshman and first-year players. The roster boasts two North East natives, #28 Kassidie McCracken and #23 Carrie Maines, and two players representing the countries of Kenya and the DRC Congo. Coach Poe takes over as interim head coach of the Lady Saints for the fall and hopes to make big strides with the team. The ladies team will also return assistant coaches Jim Beaulieu and Mary Sofish to help lead the program this season. According to Poe: “We have a lot of new players and a strong core group of returners, so we hope to grow every game as a team!”
The MNE Saints volleyball team is coached by Rachel Pacholke, a 2006 MNE grad and two-sport athlete. For six years, Coach Pacholke and the team have hosted a weeklong summer camp for girls ages 11-14 featuring skills, drills and fun. Each year the team also hosts a Pink Game to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness. This year’s Pink Game is Oct. 4 and features special guests, giveaways and events.
