Culinary students at Mercyhurst North East will put their baking skills to the test in a Dessert Wars competition Wednesday, Dec. 5.
On the menu for the friendly competition are a Grasshopper Parfait, Frosted Animal Cookie Wrapped Cake, and Tiramisu Cheesecake Bites with Truffles, Pumpkin Cheesecake and Pineapple Express, an upside-down pineapple cheesecake.
Students will present their desserts to a panel of judges at noon in the Stone Chapel Dining Room in Karsh Hall.
Judges will review each creation for visual appeal, flavor, texture, garnish and overall quality.
“The competition is a fun way to culminate a semester of baking lessons,” said instructor Brenda Fernandes. “To create their dessert entry, students use all the skills they’ve learned throughout the semester from measuring and mixing to time management, planning, ordering and modifying recipes.”
