Graduation marks fresh start for 47 displaced workers

Mercyhurst North East will hold its graduation ceremony at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, in the Ligouri Fieldhous, conferring 194 associate degrees in 13 programs including biology, business administration and computer systems support.

Also criminal justice, culinary arts, health studies, hospitality management and liberal arts along with medical laboratory technician, nursing, occupational therapy assistant, physical therapist assistant and respiratory therapist.

The class of 2018 includes 47 graduates who came to MNE as displaced workers following layoffs at GE Transportation and other local employers. They attended MNE through the TAA Program, a federally-funded, job-retraining initiative.

Mercyhurst University Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. David Dausey will be the commencement speaker.

Tiffany Kephart, a business administration major, who will receive the Medal of Honor, will also present remarks.
