Health and Wellness

Vineyard Primary Care, a Hamot Healthcare Center, at Mercyhurst North East opened its doors in the fall of 2007, in an effort to bring a wider range of healthcare services to the North East community and the MNE campus. The 17,000-square-foot building houses Vineyard Primary Care offices, along with TRAC Rehab services, diagnostic x-ray, mammography and ultrasound, and cardiology diagnostic services including nuclear stress testing, echocardiography, and vascular exams.

An infirmary for MNE students is operated through Hamot’s Primary Care office. The new facility has 12 exam rooms and offers health services including vaccines, physical exams, and appointments for students needing medical attention. The infirmary is also open to Mercyhurst staff and is operated five days a week.

Forms & Documents

Each year, beginning in May, the admissions office sends out important health forms to new students. These forms are required if you will be living on campus or if you plan on taking advantage of the services provided by Vineyard Primary Care. If you are a new student, or returner who is moving onto campus, you will want to fill out the following forms before the start of the school year (or your particular term of entry / relocating to campus).

The following are the health forms sent in the confirmation packet. While we prefer you use the originals, if you misplace them, feel free to download these ones to complete your health form requirements:

Pre-Admissions Health Record

Immunization Record

Meningitis Cover Letter

Meningitis Consent

Transfer Student Release form

To request a hardcopy of any of your misplaced forms, simply call admissions at 814-725-6144.

Counseling and Support

The Counseling Center offers services and programs to support and enhance students' well-being and personal growth. Counseling services are available to all students. Appointments are made directly with the campus counselor who is a licensed psychologist and has an office on campus. When the counselor feels it is in the best interest of the student, referrals are made to off-campus resources. These off-campus resources are the financial responsibility of the student. Counseling Center hours are posted outside the office, located in Miller 7B.

Hirtzel Field- The Home of Saints Baseball

Dedicated on September 19, 1993, Hirtzel Field is the home of the Saint's Baseball team. The left- and right-field lines measure 335 feet from home plate. Straight away to center field extends 400 feet and the power alley ends at 385. Its major league dimensions are not the only perks of the baseball diamond.

In 1995, the 1995 North Atlantic Regional Baseball Tournament was held at Hirtzel Field.

The field is named for the late North East, PA, businessman, industrialist and philanthropist, Philip D. Hirtzel, whose legacy in North East was that of quietly financing local students' college studies.

Vineyard Field- The Home of Saints Softball

Construction on Vineyard field began in the fall of 2006. In the spring of 2007, the fence was erected and the scoreboard was installed. In the summer of 2007, the infield dirt was brought in. Just before Labor Day 2007, the grass was planted and by Nov 1st, the field was playable. In 2010 the new dugouts were completed.

The Saints first game at Vineyard Field was on April 8th, 2008.

Liguori Fieldhouse- The Home of Saints Basketball, Volleyball and Wrestling

The Ligouri Fieldhouse is home of the Mercyhurst North East Saints men's basketball and women's basketball and women's volleyball team. Built in 1966, and recently remodeled in 1996, the Fieldhouse features a gymnasium with a $70,000 hardwood floor, physical fitness and training rooms and shower and locker rooms.

This multi-purpose facility is open to all students as well as the law enforcement professionals enrolled in the Municipal Police Academy located at Mercyhurst North East.

Vineyard Field- The Home of Saints Soccer and Lacrosse

Located within MNE's beautiful grape vineyards, Vineyard Field is home to both the men's and women's soccer teams in the fall and the men's lacrosse team in the Spring. The field is 105 yards long and 70 yards in width. The seating capacity is 200 people and provides a great atmosphere to watch soccer and lacrosse.

Just to the west of the the field, a new practice field was built in the summer of 2005. The new field is elevated above the game field and will serve all four teams as a place to practice.

Aquatic Center

The pool is the home of the Mercyhurst University Men's and Women's Water Polo teams. Along with hosting water polo matches, the pool is open to students, faculty and staff and has open swim hours throughout the year for the North East community.

The pool will be open for community swim.  View the Schedule

All Mercyhurst employees and students may use the pool for free by presenting a university id card during those times.

The fitness center is open Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. On the weekend, the fitness center is opened from 12:00 p.m. until 6 p.m. Fitness resources include a free weight area, cardio fitness area, weight machines and a universal gym.

Intramurals and Fitness Classes

MNE offers many options for students who don't want to play sports at a varsity level. Recreationally based intramurals welcomes and encourages all students and staff of all skill levels.  Fitness classes such as yoga, Zumba and cardio kickboxing are offered throughout the academic year, as well, and are very popular with students.
