Liberal Arts - Radio Broadcasting

Even with all the new technology available, most people still turn to the radio for their daily dose of music and news. If you've dreamed of a career in radio and love informing and entertaining others, our liberal arts degree with its radio broadcast concentration sounds like the right program for you.

The radio broadcasting concentration is designed to provide students with skills in the industry of commercial radio. The curriculum includes courses that address radio production, promotion, sales, journalism,computers/technology production, as well as a variety of practicum and internships. This coursework background will prepare students for positions in various phases of commercial radio broadcasting.

Students get hands-on training through Mercyhurst North East's own radio station, WYNE 1530 AM. Students have a chance to be involved with the daily operations of the station, including broadcasting and sales.

What can I do with this degree?

Aside from the positions on-air and in the sales, marketing and promotions offices of professional broadcast companies, graduates will be prepared for employment in various settings including:

  • Radio stations
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Public relations
  • Fundraising and promotions
